Responsible for strategy development and tactical execution of social computing initiatives in support of one of Microsoft's latest generation online services: OfficeLive Workspace.  In the coming year I will deliver a unique, re-visioned, customer workflow leveraging a raft of contemporary social computing concepts and technologies. This will involve user experience design, development of specifications, and project management. Concurrently, I am defining an external communications strategy leveraging social computing principles. Along with more effective communication, the approach is designed to promote understanding of social computing principles in-house and thereby increase our ability to innovate in that regard. A complementary, internal communications program, is also planned.

Managed product planning, product management for Microsoft.com Communities Technologies Team. Detailed a customer focused, innovative community strategy building on top of the latest generation of internet social solutions. Evangelized the services across Microsoft product and marketing groups, the international subs, and in a variety of public forums. Led to a Microsoft’s social bookmarking service, new web 2.0 recognition and reward systems, and the creative redesign of forum and blogging solutions.

Responsible for defining and managing broad customer engagement programs. Managed multiple vendors to produce “The Working Network” -- dedicated to “Better Living Through RSS”. Led development of the “OPML-o-mater” from conception through deployment. Successful use of the new internet “social” in support of WOM awareness campaigns. Provided guidance to product team community leads.

Brought Microsoft Voice Command to market. Developed the product concept, designed and sold the business plan, contributed to feature planning, negotiated agreements with mobile operators and major OEMs for product redistribution and joint sales. Voice Command was the first mobile retail application from Microsoft. It was rated 4.5 out of 5 by consumers and generated over 200 million PR impressions in the first six months. It is still sold in retail and is available to OEMs as part of the embedded OS offerings.

Created an end-to-end industry telematics solution -- Car.Net. Negotiated go-to-market partnerships with major industry integrators and service providers. Defined and detailed effective and timely messaging and orchestrated delivery of same. Managed the development of a multi-tiered, phased, solutions architecture. Managed event planning team, video production vendor team, and business development team.

Happily married with children. Local winner of the "Best Dad" award three years running.

 

Spare hours filled with a combination of fitness activities and study. Favorite activities include hiking, climbing, snow-boarding, scuba, fly fishing, and chasing my family around -- sometimes in combination. I also have a pretty fair pool game and have been described as a gym rat. Favorite subjects vary but include emergence and dynamic systems, evolution, cognitive and social psychology, urban design patterns, and an interdisciplinary pursuit of the underpinnings of creativity. I also dabble in a variety web development technologies.

 

 I'm secretary of my local homeowner's association and maintain a community web site in support of the neighborhood.
